The LRIS is a free over the phone referral service for anyone that has a legal question or is seeking to obtain legal counsel. Trained interviewers assess the caller’s situation and determine the most appropriate way to proceed.
After screening your call to determine what type of legal help you need, the MBA LRIS will refer you to a lawyer who practices in that area of law or to a community service agency that might be able to assist you. Referrals are based on the type of help you need, your geographic location, and the language you speak.
If the caller is referred to an attorney, the first half-hour of that attorney-client consultation will cost no more than $20.00. You are NOT obligated to hire the attorney. However, if you do decide to hire the attorney you are subject to their upfront retainer and hourly rates so be certain to understand the legal fees before you proceed.
The Milwaukee Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral and Information Service (MBA LRIS) has no ability to provide free legal services or referrals to attorneys that provide free legal services.
