Handles cases for low income clients including family law; landlord/tenant; public assistance; medical assistance social security; and SSI. Housing and disability intake is held Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. For more information, call 414-278-5932. Clients must live in Milwaukee or Waukesha County; are being evicted; have a public housing or rent assistance issue; or who have been locked out of their housing. Clients over 60 should call 414-278-1222. Disability clients must be between the ages of 18 and 60 and live in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, or Walworth counties, and must be at the hearing stage. For other types of public assistance problems such as W2; medical assistance; food stamps; or child care, intake procedures remain the same. Volunteer Lawyers Project intake is held on Tuesday afternoons from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday mornings from 8:30 to 10 a.m.. Clients must be from Milwaukee or WaukeshaCounty. VLP will take the following kinds of cases: bankruptcy and consumer cases; unemployment compensation; security and earnest money deposit and other landlord/tenant money claims; foreclosure; estate and/or probate. VLP does not take personal injury; worker's compensation; criminal law; or discrimination case.

Provides free benefits assistance to Milwaukee County residents ages 60 and older who are having problems with their public benefits; have applied for a benefit and have been denied; have had benefits lowered or stopped; or are having legal issues related to elder rights, consumer scams, or housing. Can also provide information about benefit programs, confusing health care papers, power of attorney forms, and changes in laws that affect older adults. Walk-in hours on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon and Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m. Telephone assistance available throughout the week at various hours. Benefits specialist also provide intake at various senior centers.

Victims of domestic violence are served through legal programs including the Legal Emergency Assistance Program (LEAP); a Restraining Order Clinic; and the Children's Advocacy Program.
Advocates provide legal information and referrals including an eligibility assessment for free emergency legal services through a partnership with Legal Action.
They also help people who have experienced abuse file restraining orders- helping to explain the process, fill out the paperwork and accompany them to court. Bilingual: Spanish; Russian.
