The Men Get Depression National Awareness Campaign is an effort to increase knowledge, reduce stigma and promote screening and treatment for male depression. Materials were created by Academy Award winning State of the Art. The campaign kicked off in November, 2007 with a National Symposium on Health Disparities in Male Depression in Washington D.C. An extensive community outreach plan will build awareness of the issue leading up to the national broadcast which will start airing on PBS stations around the country in May for Mental Health Awareness Month.
Wisconsin has been selected as one of 14 states to conduct targeted community outreach in conjunction with this event. Mental Health America of Wisconsin was selected as a partner for coordinating this outreach.
In addition, libraries throughout the State of Wisconsin will recieve a copy of the DVD Men Get Depression. This DVD contains information about men and depression in three half hour videos that focus on the various stages of the life cycle (Men ages 18-30, 30-55 and 55+). Please visit your local library to access this resource.
