Suicide Prompts Call for BP to Fund Mental Health Services
The suicide of a Gulf Coast fishing boat captain is prompting calls for action to address the rising number of mental health problems caused by the oil spill. Rep. Charlie Melancon (D-La.) called on BP to fund mental health efforts. One agency reported that they had referred more than 1,500 people for counseling because of signs of depression, according to Melancon (The Los Angeles Times, 6/25/10)
