Prevent Suicide Greater Milwaukee (PSGM) is a coalition of volunteers representing local agencies and organizations as well as the general community. PSGM is part of the state-wide initiative, Prevent Suicide Wisconsin (PSW).
Our Mission: To reduce the number of attempted and completed suicides that take place each year in our community by raising awareness, increasing education and providing support. PSGM Goals 2015 >>
To carry out our mission PSGM provides a forum for persons specifically interested in suicide prevention to come together to share information about local suicide prevention efforts and to provide education and training opportunities for the community.
PSGM is led by co-chairs and a steering committee that meets monthly to set goals and objectives for the coalition. Quarterly coalition meetings are open to any community members with an interest in suicide prevention. Attendees at the coalition meetings are encouraged to join Action Teams and/or Network Groups that are developed to respond to specific needs of the community.
The coalition uses QPR (Question Persuade Refer) Suicide Prevention as its training tool. Train the Trainer 8-hour certification trainings are offered and those certified trainers then provide 1 ½ hour QPR Gatekeeper trainings to interested groups throughout the community.
