Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a highly debilitating illness. As many as 90% of people with OCD meet criteria for a comorbid disorder, most commonly an anxiety disorder. Two out of three individuals with OCD report severe impairment, yet individuals with OCD spend an average of almost nine years before receiving a correct diagnosis and treatment. Fortunately, effective pharmacological and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) based treatments exist that help. The CBT approach with the most empirical support for its efficacy is exposure and response prevention (ERP). ERP is based on the principle of gradual in vivo or imaginal exposure to stimuli that evoke obsessional distress and the prevention of compulsive behavior.

This full-day seminar will help you develop a more comprehensive cognitive approach for the conceptualization and treatment of the most common forms of OCD in both children and adults. The morning program will cover the nature of OCD and the theoretical foundation of CBT with ERP. The afternoon program will provide practical instruction on how to assess and formulate a working hierarchy based on an adult and pediatric case example.
