Unmasked Space is a welcoming, peer-based mental health support and community group for teens and young adults who identify as neurodivergent — or who are simply looking for a place where they fit.
You don’t need a formal diagnosis to attend. If you think you belong, you probably do.
This is a space to show up as you are. There’s no pressure to mask, perform, or explain yourself. Some people talk. Some people listen. Some stim, doodle, or sit quietly. All of that is welcome here.
What The Unmasked Space Group Is and What to Expect
Unmasked Space is a safe, affirming group where participants can build connection and community at their own pace. People come to share laughs about the things they love — from fandoms to fixations — and to talk about what’s on their mind, including harder topics like anxiety, depression, or suicidal thoughts.
This isn’t a therapy or clinical group. We’re not here to diagnose, treat, or fix — but we are here to listen, validate, and connect. The group is peer-based and guided by facilitators, with plenty of room for both struggle and joy.
Each meeting generally includes:
- A warm welcome and check-in
- A mix of structured and open conversation
- Space to share feelings, struggles, or experiences
- Creative or fun topics, like special interests, games, or memes
- Optional group activities or crafts
- Participation is always optional. You can talk, listen, stim, doodle, or just be. Everyone’s presence is valued, no matter how you choose to engage.
Unmasked in the Wild
Unmasked in the Wild is an extension of the Unmasked Space community — taking connection beyond the group and into everyday life.
These are low-pressure meetups held in a variety of shared spaces and experiences— from coffee shops and museums to parks, game nights, or local hangouts. The goal is to spend time together in ways that feel natural and enjoyable, giving participants opportunities to connect outside of the group setting. Community is a core part of Unmasked Space, and these events help participants build relationships, strengthen bonds, and feel a sense of belonging in the world around them.
Each event will indicate whether it’s for:
- Teens (13–19) – geared toward middle and high school students
- Young Adults (18–25ish) – for older participants
- All Ages – open to anyone who is interested including families
To keep the space safe and supportive, participants should attend events intended for their age range. However, 18- or 19-year-olds are welcome to attend both teen or young adult events or groups, and everyone is welcome at our All Ages Unmasked in the Wild events.
Safety, Support, and VCVC
While Unmasked Space is not a clinical or crisis group, we know that thoughts and feelings related to suicide or self-harm can come up — especially when people finally feel safe enough to be real.
When this happens, facilitators use a non-clinical, compassionate support approach called VCVC, part of the Alternatives to Suicide (Alt2Su) framework.
VCVC stands for Validation, Curiosity, Vulnerability, and Community. It’s a way of responding to emotional pain without judgment, fixing, or panic:
- Validating feelings without shame or shock
- Getting curious about someone’s lived experience
- Sharing vulnerability and common humanity
